Merry Mabon the Autumnal Equinox 2014

                       Don't miss the big event September 22nd. 

   As the sun marches to the south, it rises later and sets earlier, on September 22nd, the hours of light and dark will be equal, this is the Autumnal Equinox. This is the fleeting union of solar and lunar forces. A time of wonder. It is a time to honor our elders and all who have taught us, regardless of age. 

   In the Northern Hemisphere, and depending on where you live, the Autumnal Equinox will occur at 10:29 EDT, 9:29 CDT, 8:29 MDT, and 7:29 PDT on 9/22. The sun will rise due east and set due west. 

  

  According to the old ways, this is a quarter day, rather than a 

cross-quarter day, and therefore unlike groundhog day it is a 

direct barometer as far as the weather to come.  

Mabon is a time to find balance, and being the second harvest it is a time to be thankful for our bounty. We give thanks for the light we have enjoyed as we honor the Green Man of the Forest.

wine, gourds, pine cones, acorns, grains, corn, apples, pomegranates, vines such as ivy, dried seeds, and horns of plenty.

                                       Herbs of Mabon: 

Acorn, ferns, grains, honeysuckle, marigold, milkweed, myrrh, passionflower, rose, sage, Solomon's seal, thistle, and vegetables.

                                       

                                      Foods of Mabon: 

Breads, nuts, apples, pomegranates, and vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, and onions.

                                      Incense of Mabon: 

                                         myrrh, and sage.

                                        Colors of Mabon: 

                     Red, orange, russet, maroon, brown, and gold.


                                     Stones of Mabon: 

                        Sapphire, lapis lazuli, and yellow agates.


                                   Activities of Mabon: 

                               

    Making wine, gathering dried herbs, plants, seeds and seed pods, walking in the woods, scattering offerings in harvested fields, offering libations to trees, adorning burial sites with leaves, acorns, and pine cones to honor those who have passed over.

Protection, prosperity, security, and self-confidence. Also those of harmony and balance.
