Goat Show two: Dairy goats

                             Another fun interlude 

            at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. 

     Today Dairy goats were the stars of the show.  

65 percent of the population of the world drinks goat's milk, in America cow's milk is still the favorite.

On average, goats produce about one gallon of milk per day, unlike a cow, which produces four times that amount. Goat's milk has higher amounts of vitamin A, riboflavin, calcium, potassium, and niacin,  And because of the small fat globules and slightly lower lactose content it is easier to digest. Goat milk does contain more calories and is not lactose free.

Nubians and Nigerian Dwarf goats (like my fur babies) generally have the mildest, sweetest, and highest butterfat milk. 

          

 Never saw so many blue-eyed goats! 

        If looking for milk production rather than specific flavor, Alpines and Saanens are a good choice.

                      Looks like a winner Alpine.

is supposed to have tiny external ears!

They are generally also polled (without horns).

Good even-tempered dairy goats.

4-H, friends, and fun at the county fair.

                We had a great time supporting, Peyton,

          a wonderful young man at his first 4-H goat show. 

There were several categories and Peyton worked very hard with his goats and the time and effort paid off as his boer goat, Feta, did well. They won and placed in many of the events. 

Peyton showed kindness and patience toward his goat while exhibiting, paid attention to the judge's comments, and excelled in his showmanship. 

I think he had fun and learned a lot, 

and this was a very successful day!   

 We were all very proud of him, especially sister Taylor, and his Mom who entered the parents' just for fun event. The kids were the judges and they pulled no punches. 

Got to spend quality time 

with my friends. 

Thank you Carol for taking us,

and for doing so much for so many people. 

                         We need more support for 4-H, 
                                    these are great kids and 

                               they deserve some recognition.
